Abstract
This article consists of a clinical study of 177 cases of intussuscaption treated at the Presbyterian
Hospital Taegu in the past the years from Jan. 1960 to Aug. 1969. Age, sex distribution of the
cases was analysised and compared with work of others. The Group was most common at 90.8%
of idiopathic intussuscaption and the remainder belonged specific type caused by mesenteric lymph
node hypertrophy in 2.36%, Meckel¢¥s diverticulum in 1.68%, carcinoma of cecum in 1.12% in
lymphosarcoma and mobile cecum in 1.68%. The anatomical type of intussuscaption composed of
ileo-cecal type most common form 38.2% and the ileo-colic type colon besides cecum 33.3%.
The authors tried with hydrostatic pressure reduction technique choosing carefully the indication
for reduction in a total of 120 cases. The remainder of the cases (57 cases) were treated by surgical
reduction. The comparative study of post reduction or surgical means. The hydrostiatic pressure
reduction group had a mortality of only 0.2 % with a recurrense rate of the group with 0.2%
while surgical reduction group 1.7% in the group with only reduction and 5.15% among the group
combined with resection. And overall recurrence rated following surgical reduction was 0.5%.
The authors recommend that all cases of intussusception be carefullly selected for a possible hydro
static pressure reduction when day reach hospitals early. However, it should be warned of the
dangers from the hydrostatic pressure reduction stated technique. Therefore the aughors fell that
surgenons be notified of cases admitted and measures that are going to be utilized. Both surgical
and medical combined management ba practiced in treating cases of intussusception especially in
